EB 1612N / Kienzle 053/703

Description

The caliber 1612N of the Ebauches Bettlach is a very small ladies' watch form movement of the familiar size 6 3/4 x 8 lignes. Unlike most other movements of that size, it contains just a pin lever escapement, beared in 7 jewels. Four of them are used for bearing and securing the balance in a KIF Trior shock protection system, which makes this movement rugged enough for daily use.

To make enough space for the large (and, as usual for EB, very or even too light) balance wheel, it uses a double decker construction with a very small fourth wheel located under a small cock below the anchor wheel and third wheel. On position “3”, you can see a part of it.

Another disadvantage of this movement is, that only the anchor wheel is beared in synthetic rubis, which results in a fast abrasion of the other bearings - escpecially on the third wheel.

Although the movement is cronstructed in a colum architecture, it can be services rather easily, since the main plate only bears three gears, among them the minute wheel. Surprisingly, a full revision with cleaning and oiling made it running strong like on its first days of its former long usage.

Finally a few words about the dial side: Of course, you’ll find here the rocking bar winding mechanism. You also see the second KIF Trior shock protection of the balance, that’s a good detail!

This movement was also used by Kienzle by their name “053/703”.
