Description
The Guba 1200 is a remarkable mens' size movement. In literature, the manufacturer Guba is
almost unknown, neverthess, their movements, especially
caliber 25
and the caliber 1200 descibed here are often found in watches of the fifties. Since this movements
is not marked at all, it is quite difficult to identify, but thanks to its uniquely shaped setting
lever spring, it was finally possible to determine its manufacturer and caliber number.
The Guba 1200 impresses with its golden-tone Glucydur balance with screws and the carefully crafted
plates with beveled edges. These are all attributes of high-class movements.
The caliber 1200 was available in different versions, with seventeen jewels, with 21 jewels,
with a Farr-II Shock protection, with a Trishock protection etc. Only the long regulator arm is
missing in all versions, although the scale for it is engraved in the balance cock. Even more
noteable is, that besides the 10 1/2 ligne version, there exists also a 11 1/2 ligne version with
a larger main plate but the same caliber number.
Technically resembles this movement with its directly driven center second hand and the
yoke winding system on the dial side the technical state-of-the-art of the fifties.
